Brown Bag Lecture

"Beyond the Blockade: Student Perspective on Cuba", presented by Bill Fiander, Lecturer, Political Science.

Ever wonder what it's like to live in Cuba behind the 65-year-old U.S. blockade? Not to mention during a U.S. military intervention in Venezuela that ousted a president, cut-off oil to Cuba and killed 22 Cuban citizens? Under heightened tensions, days of national mourning and unpredictable threats from the White House, a group of Washburn public administration students braved a 10-day study abroad to Cuba over winter break with their faculty advisor, Bill Fiander, to find out.

Come hear their experiences immersing themselves with the Cuban people in historic neighborhoods of Havana, Trinidad and Santa Clara to witness revolutionary roots, economic realities, quests for freedom, cultural beauty and what they really think of the U.S.
