Historical Film Nights: Battleship Potemkin (1925) is certainly Soviet propaganda, but also a masterpiece of cinematic art and a brilliant manifestation of that brief moment of fusion between revolutionary politics and revolutionary art movements. Eisenstein takes on then recent history, the failed revolution of 1905 and uses it as a backdrop of his own exploration of the possibilities of narrative film.
