This semester, Solomon Perel, a Jew who survived both the Soviet and Nazi invasions of his Polish homeland, passed away in Israel at the age of 97. To honor his passing, we will screen Agnieszka Holland's classic film adaptation of his memoir, "Europa, Europa" (1990). Balancing the harrowing with the humorous, Holland's brilliant film tells the story of the lengths young Solly is forced to do to stay alive as his homeland is dismembered by war.
