Motherhood in contemporary Latin American speculative fiction -

Traditionally, motherhood has been portrayed in literature as the exclusive privilege of women, and, often, as their raison detre. More recent work, however, raises the question: what happens when reproduction can be achieved in ways that do not necessarily involve the female body? In this presentation, Miguel Gonzales-Abellas, Professor of Spanish, explores how motherhoold is represented in contemporary Latin American speculative fiction, which offers evocative visions of how the relations and bonds of motherhood may change in imagined futures, dystopian and otherwise.
