The Voice of the Sean Speaks to the Soul: Exploring Subtext in Kate Chopin's "The Awakening"

Kate Chopin's "The Awakening" provides a textual canvas for the exploration of a woman's sensual awakening. The genius of this work is that the essense of this "awakening" seems to be in the "eye of the beholder." Robin Hansen, adjunct instructor of Anthropology, looks at how an individual's culture informs the reader response to a literary work by examining the subtext embedded throughout the story.
